Division : Energy Division Status : Ongoing Project Title : Promotion of Renewable Energy, Energy Efficiency and Greenhouse Gas Abatement (PREGA) Phase-2 Partner : Nil Donor/ Funder : Asian Development Bank, Manila Project Incharge : Dr. M Eusuf Project Description : In recognition of the importance of renewable energy, energy efficiency and greenhouse gas abatement, the Asian Development Bank (ADB) has undertaken the above project for implementation in some Asian countries. In Bangladesh, Bangladesh Centre for Advanced Studies (BCAS) has been selected for implementation of the project. A National Implementation Committee (NIC) headed by the Joint Secretary (Development), Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources GOB, is monitoring the project. During Phase-1, 7 reports including 4 prefeasibility reports on (1) Dhaka city MSW to electricity, (2) Improved Co-generation in Sugar industries, (3) Oil to gas for power generation, and (4) Solar-Wind-Diesel hybrid for power generation were submitted to ADB HQ, Manila. The duration of phase-2 is April 2004 - March 2006. BCAS has, in the meantime, prepared and submitted the following four reports: a) Quality and Quantity assessment of Khulna City Solid Waste for Electricity generation. b) Pre-feasibility Study of Khulna City Solid Waste for Electricity Generation. c) Pre-feasibility study of widespread Use of Efficient Stoves. d) Pre-feasibility Study of Popularization of Biogas Plants Four workshops entitled “National Workshop for REGA and CDM Awareness Building & Motivation under the ADB –PREGA Project” were held in: Dhaka : 1-2 June, 2005 Chittagong : 18-19 June, 2005 Khulna : 3-4 July, 2005 Rajshahi : 27-28 July, 2005 A total 170 trainees participated in the workshops. Out of these 170 trainees, 36 were selected for advanced training on “Report Writing and Financial/Economic Analysis of CDM-able Projects including CDM Modalities, Procedures and PDD Evaluation”. The training was completed in Dhaka during 4-6 February 2006. Time Period : April 2004 – March 2006. Expected Outputs : Workshop, paper preparation and presentation.
