|
This paper is based on participatory research was undertaken in Bangladesh into the local water management strategies of the rural populations; As part of the research programme, an assessment was made of the priority water issues of the various livelihood groups which shows that for the majority of the rural population across a range of livelihood groups, the day by day problems the face are more often than not, ones associated with scarcity of the services water resources provide rather than excess of water. This paper outlines these problems in depth and identifies the various coping strategies the communities have adopted as they attempt to maintain their livelihoods. |
