Aims and Objectives

The conference aims to:
Share the latest developments in mainstreaming community‐based adaptationinto international, national and local planning and processes.
Specific objectives include:
• Bringing together climate scientists, policy makers, practitioners and otherstakeholders to share knowledge in relation to mainstreaming communitybasedadaptation into international, national and local planning andprocesses.
• Ultimately to enhance the capacity of the most vulnerable groups andpeople, improve their livelihoods and integrate lessons learnt on CBA intolocal, national and international planning for development and climatechange.
• Disseminating lessons learnt at the conference through immediate onlineevent coverage and ensuing conference proceedings.

Field trip and main conference

Field trips from 19th to 21st April (Cancelled):
A three day field trip, from the 19th to 21st April 2013, will give ourparticipants the opportunity to visit a series of sites located inBangladesh. Participants will be divided into groups and taken to adiverse array of areas that deal with issues such as flooding, riverislands, droughts or saline water intrusion. Some of these field siteswill be part of the Action Research on Community Adaptation inBangladesh (ARCAB) programme.
Conference from 22nd to 25th April:
The main conference will be held from the 22nd to 25th April 2013.Each day will consist of a plenary session and a number of parallelinteractive sessions relating to the following focus areas within theoverall conference theme “Mainstreaming CBA into national and localplanning”:• CBA in practice in sectors and regions: water, agriculture and foodsecurity, ecosystem‐based approaches, disaster risk reduction,economics, human health, urban areas, children, gender,migration and population• Knowledge, education and awareness on CBA: challenges andopportunities for mainstreaming adaptation• Monitoring and evaluation of CBA

How to participate

The workshop is open to anyone interested in community‐based adaptation:particularly policymakers, non‐governmental organisations, research and policyinstitutes, academics, and practitioners with a particular focus on grassroots adaptation work. Attendance is limited to 250 participants, all of whom must complete an online application form (accessed at: www.iied.org). For those who can fund themselves, applications are due by 28 February 2013. Participants requiring funding (from developing countries only) should make this clear on their application form and must ensure their application form reaches conference organizers by 31 January 2013.
Virtual participants
For those who cannot attend the conference or are mindful of their carbonfootprint, CBA7 will allow for ‘virtual participation’. Virtual Internet Participants(VIPs) will be able to join the same online networking and collaboration spacesand contribute to the final conference outcomes. They will be able to watchsome conference presentations and also interviews with key speakers. They willreceive regular updates throughout the whole event through tweets, blogs andvideo footage, all uploaded to the conference website allowing them to learnalongside real participants. They may also make valuable connections for futurecollaboration on global CBA projects.

Registration Fee

1. Registration fee for attending the conference per person:

Participation Fees USD 1000
Field Visit Fees USD 500
2. Fees for Accommodation at the conference venue:
USD 750 (5 nights) or USD 900 (6 nights)

3. Who cannot attend the conference due to fund arrangements or any other issue, we suggest them to become VIP(Vertual Internet Participants).
