Main Objective:   To organize two major international workshops by GFEP on Environment and Poverty during the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in June 1992.
Brief Description: BCAS has been functioning as the secretariat of the GFEP . Through dialogues, meetings, consultation and forums, the Global Forum on Environment and Poverty (GFEP) organized international workshops on Environment and Poverty during the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in June 1992 and subsequently organized a Global Forum on Environment and Poverty with over 200 organizations from all over the world.
Output The workshops opened up the opportunity to share various facets of environment and poverty. It had also laid out real solutions and practical ways to save environment and eradicate poverty. The GFEP action programmes include better understanding of the linkages between poverty and environment, establish poverty in the center of all environment-development discourse, help mobilize activities on poverty related issues in several NGOs in the South, develop a global network on environment and poverty and raise the issue globally for follow up activities of the UNCED.
