Main Objective:   To assess environmental and socio-economic impact of the flood control, drainage and irrigation (FCDI) project at Meghna-Dhonagoda in Chandpur district.
Brief Description: The MDIP, a 17,580 ha., FCDI polder in the south-eastern floodplain of Bangladesh was constructed by the BWDB during 1980-1998 with ADB’s loan assistance. An assessment on the environmental and socio-economic impacts of an existing flood control and drainage project at Meghna-Dhonagoda was carried out. It included assessments on crop yields, human health, mobility, water quality, fisheries and other impacts involving surveys, local level group workshops with different professional groups and affected people. The research was conducted with literature and video review, surveys, Participatory Rural Appraisals (PRAs), and workshop methods.
Output The study generated useful data regarding environment, fisheries and socio economic condition of the people that can be reviewed while assessing further Flood Control and Drainage projects in Bangladesh. To analyze the results a final report was prepared.
