Main Objective:   1.To assess land-based coastal and marine pollution 2.To prepare a set of GIS based maps 3.Identify possible mitigation measures 4.Demonstrating one good practice in one ward of the coastal cities.
Brief Description: The representatives of the Government of Bangladesh attended the regional workshop of the Global Programme of Action (GPA) for the protection of marine environment from land-based activities and identified four major areas of activity pertinent to the coastal and marine environment of Bangladesh.
Output Based on the assessment report and findings, priority areas and options for addressing land based coastal pollution and associated problems were identified and commitment of the stakeholders were solicited for addressing the problems. Depending on priority area and commitment of the stakeholders a concept paper was developed for interventions. Further an institutional mechanism was developed for carrying out local level actions to address the priority problems and a limited scale pilot activity was initiated and acted upon in one ward of a coastal city involving local institutes and organizations of partner(s) and government authorities.
