Main Objective:   To assist the communities to empower themselves to collectively address their problems and needs. To introduce various economic and community welfare activities which are operated and managed by their community organizations. To facilitate sustainable conservation and management of coastal marine and estuarine fisheries resources and habitats through strengthening of community-based management of the resources.
Brief Description: The coastal fishing community is largely poor, assetless, unorganized and disadvantaged. They depend on the advantaged group of people like the boat/gear owner, moneylender and exposed to manmade and natural hazards. Biophysical characterization of the fishing communities and the resource systems and sub-systems in the project areas was conducted through PRA exercises. Planning workshops to develop consensual plan of action for potential interventions towards conservation, restoration and enhancement of resources were organized.
Output Community based and stakeholder management of fisheries resources and habitats through reduction of fishing efforts in over-fished fisheries, reduction of destructive fishing practices, protection/conservation/rehabilitation of fisheries habitats toward sustainable fisheries were ensured through the project. In terms of sustainability of the project FMOs, community and VOs, maximum number of fishers should be enlisted in the VOs with the objective of ECFC for Mobilizing Costal Communities in Protection, Conservation and Management of Coastal Fisheries Resources (CBFM).
