Main Objective:   To enhance fish production in open water and ensure livelihoods of the poor, particularly the fishermen living in and around the selected floodplains. And to carry out environmental and fisheries production monitoring in the floodplains that included fish stocking, socio-economic survey, environment, habitat and hydrology
Brief Description: The TFP was a six year long $ 40 million WB loan project of the Government of Bangladesh. The project’s goal was to identify, locate, and stock fish fingerlings during the flood season in flood plains located in the western part of Bangladesh. BCAS was engaged to carryout environmental and fisheries production monitoring in 15 floodplain sites, located in Western part of Bangladesh. It conducted fish catch/production monitoring including benchmark survey, socio-economic monitoring, food consumption monitoring, fish market monitoring and hydrological monitoring in three major flood-plains namely Chanda beel, BSKB beel and Halti beel.
Output The economic assets and income of the respondents had increased in all the three beels during the post intervention period compared to the pre-intervention period. It was found that the mean income from fish, farm products and non-farm products in three beel areas were much higher than pre-intervention period. The TFP generated useful data pertinent to the fish stock, fish production, fish market, livelihoods of people living in the beel areas, and about the hydrology and environment of selected floodplains.
