Main Objective:   To carry out social and economic feasibility studies of shrimp sector on nine selected areas, and to disseminate the research findings to stakeholders concerned or related with shrimp sector in Bangladesh
Brief Description: The Fourth Fisheries project (FFP) is a designated special priority project of the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock, executed by the Department of Fisheries with financial supports from DFID and the World Bank. The goal and objective of the FFP was to support sustainable growth in and equitable distribution of the benefits generated from increased fish and shrimp production for domestic consumption and export and to contribute in poverty elimination in Bangladesh by improving the livelihoods of the poor people
Output Nine study reports were prepared by BCAS. The reports were: 1. Shrimp sector literature review, 2. Village level participatory census, 3. Household livelihood analysis, 4. Shrimp producers’ livelihood study, 5. Fry collectors’ livelihood assessment, 6. Women and children study, 7. Network and political analysis, 8. Costs and benefits of Bagda shrimp farming in Bangladesh, and 9. Goal oriented project planning. BCAS successfully completed the feasibility studies and incorporating all the findings and key issues a book titled “Shrimp Farming and Industry: Sustainability, Trade and Livelihoods” was published in 2004.
