Main Objective:   The primary objective of the study was to investigate tree tenure relationship in the context of the land holding patterns in a tidal-based agro-forestry system.
Brief Description: Processes (activities, project sites etc.): BCAS conducted the study on tree plantation patterns in tidal agro-forestry in five purposively selected villages in greater Barisal district of Bangladesh. The selected villages had specialty in terms of alley cropping and nursery contrasting to traditional agricultural practices. Methodological approach: Household survey was conducted and frame survey categorized the households based on family size and amount of land holdings. After frame survey purposive sampling technique was used to obtain more detailed information from the categorized households. Questionnaires were used as a tool to collect data from the sampled households. Besides land use survey was also carried out. Field visits were often made and open ended questionnaire was used to collect more information. Case study method was also used to write profiles of the selected villages. A comprehensive checklist was developed in this regard
Output Results achieved/key findings/outputs: The study highlighted in details the plantation pattern of various trees in tidal agro forestry zone. It found that three distinct agro-forestry systems viz. homestead based agro-forestry, nursery based agro-forestry, and tidal based agro-forestry were developed in the study area. Incorporating all the findings of the study a report titled ‘Tree Plantation Pattern in Tidal Agro-forestry: A case study of five villages of Bangladesh in greater Barisal district’ was prepared. Lessons learnt by the implementing organisation/s: Selection of appropriate indicators for this kind of research was felt as a great challenge during the study. However, it generated useful data regarding to the pattern and type of tree plantation in a tidal agro-forestry zone of Bangladesh.
