Main Objective:   To determine the sustainability of leather, garments and shrimp sector of Bangladesh in coping with the emerging WTO rules and standards.
Brief Description: Processes (activities, project sites etc.): Phase-1: The project dealt with sustainable trade in leather, garments and shrimp sector in Bangladesh. In all these sectors environmental issues and environmental regulations were reviewed. Sector wise stakeholders were identified and the relevant issues were addressed. Phase-2: Similar activities were carried out on the garments and textile sector during phase 2 of the project. Methodological approach: Case study, review of relevant literature and WTO rules and standards were undertaken as methods of the research.
Output Results achieved/key findings/outputs: Carried out studies on Bangladesh leather sector to determine the sustainability of the sector. Case study on Bangladesh leather sector in view of emerging WTO rules and standards. Scoping of country resource and capacity within the government and private sector and assessed the strength and weaknesses in coping with the emerging WTO rules and standards. Lessons learnt by the implementing organisation/s: Leather, garments and shrimp sectors of Bangladesh recognize the importance to abide by the rules and standards of the World Trade Organisation for sustaining in the global competitive market.
